A Survey for the Elderly Subjects in Istanbul.

The aim of this study was to investigate dental health and social status of elderly subjects living in 3 different residential homes and subjects who attended University of Marmara Dental school. A detailed questionnaire and dental examinations were conducted to collect information on the needs, demands and living condition of the elderly subjects. 121 subjects were involved in this study (x=65). In these 121 subjects, % 16 were found to be mentally disordered. % 48 of this subjects wearing upper and lower complete and % 7 partial dentures, % 14 of subjects are needed dentures. % 20 of the subjects lost their teeth more than 5 years and % 35 subjects more than 10 years. In % 16 of the subjects denture hygiene was found to be satisfactory.

According to this study the investigated group of subjects had a rather poor dental status.
